Valentine’s Day, a day of love for all!

It’s that time of year of again when love is in the air, but mostly for those new relationships.

I’m just kidding, it’s for the new and the old love. 

When this day comes around we just want to shower our special love ones with gifts and acts of kindness.

If you know me I reserve this day for my children.  I make a very big deal about it and shower them with gifts from the time they wake up until they go to bed that night. Everything I do has a personal touch of telling them why I love them so much.

I like to use Valentine’s Day to show them that they should love themselves more than anyone can love them.  For my older children who are dating I want to teach them that it’s okay for them to show themselves how much they love everything that makes them who they are without expecting another person to shower them with things to make them feel good about themselves.

I would love to take all the credit for this outlook on Valentine’s Day, but I can’t. My mother did these things for me and I am so glad she did.

My husband does not like holidays, he actually despises them because he feels he shows his appreciation toward me throughout the year and he does not need someone (society) telling him to appreciate me one day out of the year.

I of course don’t see holidays that way, but there is no use trying to change his mind when he has felt this way forever.

I am saying all of this to say for the new and old loves if you celebrate this holiday go all out for your love one.  Start the day with love and end the night with love.

Instead of giving flowers have them delivered to their job.

Instead of taking them out to eat, cook a special dish and eat it by candlelight.  Not just any old dinner but something ordered from one of those companies that deliver you everything you need to make the perfect dinner.

Instead of buying candy and chocolates, invest in some edible underwear. Buy some edible chocolate body paint.

Instead of balloons, go on a hot air balloon ride or just release a dozen balloons with little notes attached professing your love for your significant other.

Instead of giving a gift create a scavenger hunt so they have to work for the gift.  Not just any old scavenger hunt, make the destinations relevant to your relationship.

Instead of a night out on the town, a helicopter ride of the city with champagne and strawberries (or whatever you like to be fed).

The goal is to not be predictable, but go a little outside your comfort zone and make your Valentine’s Day memorable.
