Bedroom Must-Haves for Couples

Our bedrooms should always be a sacred space to rest our worries and create magic with our partners. Too many times we use our bedroom to catch up on work, to do laundry, to have a quick snack or a meal in front of the tv in the bed, or as storage. We must take back our rooms and create that space that sparks the fireworks.

You don’t need to spend money on expensive items to take back your bedroom, adding the simplest things creates the space we all crave.

I use to make my bed every morning before leaving for work, but since our routine has changed significantly since COVID I don’t always leave the home and I don’t have a real schedule, so making the bed has become an afterthought. At night when it’s time to return to the bedroom I am faced with an unmade bed, clothes everywhere, and work stuff thrown astray. A sight like that never screams romance it just makes both parties more tired.

So how do we force ourselves back into healthy routines, slowly. I give myself small achievable goals in the beginning to keep the momentum. I started making my bed again. I did this before going to the bathroom, before having my lemon and ACV water, before even brushing my teeth. It was the first thing I did when exiting my bed. If nothing else was done in the room seeing that made bed just made me feel so much better in the evening.

Eventually, I added cleaning up clothes, keeping my work stuff out of the room, and making a note to myself and my husband to never eat or snack in bed unless it is a romantic gesture of breakfast in bed.

This started to bring back the flirtation at night. The space was clean and our minds were free to think about each other instead of whose going to clean the bed off so we can get in it.

Here is my list of bedroom must-haves to get the evening moving in a romantic direction when entering the bedroom.

  • Every couple’s bedroom needs an enticing bed. When I say enticing I mean a bed that makes you want to cuddle up with the one you love. Comfy blankets, soft sheets, pillows plural, and a nice throw blanket. Layering creates that welcoming feel when preparing your bed. If the budget allows investing in a nice mattress cover, for extra comfort. The color of your bedding also makes a difference. Choose calming colors. If you enjoy reds and yellows only use those items sparingly. Maybe one pillow or a throw with those colors.
  • Every bedroom also needs candles. Now, these candles don’t necessarily need to be scented or real for that matter it just creates an ambiance a soft lighting. Maybe four candles that you light while you prepare for bed. I usually shower at night, so before I start my shower I light my candles and then continue my evening routine. I use three LED candles and one hemp candle for relaxation. I do not suggest mixing scents or food-scented candles for the bedroom.

  • If you enjoy the scent of essential oils a diffuser is a must for the bedroom. I have another post about the type of scents for the bedroom.  Diffusers are not expensive and the essential oils if bought in kits instead of one at a time can also be affordable. Please make sure your oils are 100% pure. Read your labels. I let my diffuser run through the night it automatically shuts off when the water is gone. Use scents that you and your partner agree on and nothing with a heightened perfume smell.

  • Another must-have is access to music. Light music playing while preparing for bed or love helps set the mood. The Alexa or Google home are good options because they are easy to shut off when you don’t need them anymore. A phone close by can also help with this. I don’t suggest having videos playing on tv or tablet because it becomes a distraction. Create a playlist beforehand and keep the music purposeful and low energy.

  • Plants are also a nice touch in a bedroom for couples. Plants bring in freshness and life. You don’t have to have a green thumb or the biggest plant you can fit in the room, but nice low maintenance plants work perfectly. Bamboo plants are nice, flowers from your garden that you can switch out periodically, house plants, and if you want something big they have floor plants that bring life into a room. Please no artificial plants and you don’t want a cluttered look but a simplistic look where the plants help to make the room feel fresh.

  • Have you seen those framed words of encouragement that people have all over their homes?  A nice one over the bed or a small one on your dresser are great ways to get those words of love and encouragement on you and your partner’s mind. Those become a manifestation because every time you see the words you say them and start to believe what they say, so choose words that will help build your relationship. They sell the framed words and phrases, they sell the stickers to stick on your wall or over door frames, or you can make them yourself.

  • This next suggestion is purely a suggestion. If you can remove the television from the bedroom you should. TV provides a distraction that eliminates the romance in the bedroom because all the attention is on what’s on the screen. I do understand that the tv is sometimes used as a noise buffer if you have children or roommates but that’s why you have the music. If you just refuse to remove the tv read my post on how to make electronic no’s apart of your bedroom romance.

If you have other items you use in your bedroom to help keep the flame during, please add them in the comments. If you add any of these items to your bedroom and feel a difference in the chemistry between you and your partner let me know
